01 / Arrival
The room was above a bakery and across from a square that became louder at dinner, then completely still by midnight. We had booked the first night and written down the address of a market. That was the entire plan.
At first, the empty days felt irresponsible. By the second morning, they felt generous. Breakfast could last until the cups were cold. A street could be followed because the light looked good at the end of it.

02 / Leaving space
We returned to the same lunch counter three times. The owner stopped offering us the menu and brought whatever had just come out of the kitchen. We learned the route home by the sound of chairs being stacked in the square.
None of it would have made a useful checklist. Together, it gave the week a shape: repeated places, familiar faces, and enough room for each day to change its mind.
03 / What came home
We brought back a paper bag from the bakery, a receipt from the lunch counter, and the name of a song someone played from an upstairs window. Small evidence of a week we had not tried to optimize.
